Unit Overview
This unit has been designed to equip students will all the skills need to view, edit and ultimately design SQL databases. The unit is designed to cover and exceed the requirements of the OCR GCSE Computer Science specification, specifically giving students the skills and confidence to use a professional database when tackling the controlled assessment element.
This hands on unit starts by getting students accustomed with Querying and navigating databases, and then covers how to edit, update and delete entries in a database. The unit then takes a look at the considerations required when designing a database, and takes a peek at some of the more advanced queries that make SQL as powerful as it is.
Towards the end of the unit, we look at how SQL can function as a powerful back-end to a Python application, and finally students are issued with a mini project to go off an design their own database schema.
