Touchscreens are both an input and output device. They allow input from the user through the use of a touch sensitive surface on the screen. They also output data to the user, such as displaying the home screen of a phone or displaying a number pad for the users to press the digits on.

Advantages of touchscreens
- They are incredibly intuitive to use, so much so that even babies can use them.
- They don’t require a separate piece of hardware
- They are faster to interact with than mice.
- They can be used to perform complex interactions, such as pinch-zoom, two finger rotate.
Disadvantages of touchscreens
- Mice are far more accurate then touchscreens, due to the size of your finger.
- They don’t work well when wet or when you are wearing gloves
- The are less durable than non-touch screens
- Onscreen keyboards can take up a lot of space on the screen
