What will be in-scope and out-of-scope.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an existing system is in place it is important to understand why the system is being replace &#8211; what are the key factors that are driving the change?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is the existing system flawed?<\/li>\n<li>Is the existing system buggy, insecure or unmaintainable?<\/li>\n<li>What features are missing from the existing system?<\/li>\n<li>What features of the system do function well and should be kept?<\/li>\n<li>Problems with the existing system<\/li>\n<li>Too out of date &#8211; obsolete technologies<\/li>\n<li>Unable to be maintained<\/li>\n<li>Unable to cope with demands of scale<\/li>\n<li>Cannot be adapted to new business requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to gain an understanding of the context a number of different research techniques can be used, depending on the situation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interviews with management, users and other stakeholders of the system<\/li>\n<li>Observations of the existing system being used, usually through the observation of users using the system.<\/li>\n<li>Surveys and questionnaires given to various stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Examination of the documentation of the system.<\/li>\n<li>Use of the system by the developers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Advantages of new systems<\/h4>\n<p>There can be many advantages to new systems<\/p>\n<p>More forward compatible with other systems<\/p>\n<p>Better User Interface<\/p>\n<p>Faster Performance<\/p>\n<p>Cheaper in the long run<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<\/div><h2 class=\"tabtitle\">Change Management<\/h2>\n<div class=\"tabcontent\">\n\n<h3>Describe the need for change management<\/h3>\n<p>Change can be incredibly difficult and distressing for both individuals and organisations. Change, therefore, needs to be managed carefully in order for the new system to be successfully implemented.
