Introduction

Output Devices

Output devices are hardware components that allow a computer or electronic device to display or present information to the user.

The common types of output devices include:

  • Display Output
  • Physical Output
  • Audio Output
  • Haptic Output

Display Output Devices

Monitor/Display

This is the most common output device, which includes computer monitors, laptop screens, and television screens. They display visual information generated by the computer. Modern displays use either LCD or LED technology, although very old devices used CRT.

Projector

Projectors are used to display computer or video output on a larger screen or surface, typically used for presentations, movies, or multimedia purposes.

Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets

VR headsets are output devices that display immersive virtual reality environments to users.

Smart TVs

These are televisions equipped with internet connectivity and built-in apps that can display online content and interactive media.

Digital Signage

Large screens or displays used for advertising and information purposes in public places like airports, malls, and train stations.

Physical

Physical Output Devices

Printer

Printers produce hard copies of digital documents or images on paper. There are various types of printers, including inkjet, laser, and dot matrix printers. The common types of printer are Laser, Inkjet and Bubblejet.

Plotter

Plotters are specialized output devices used in engineering, design, and architecture. They draw detailed, high-precision graphics on paper or other materials.

3D Printers

These specialized devices create three-dimensional objects by depositing material layer by layer based on a digital model. 3D printers can print everything from small plastic objects, to boats and even houses. Most consumer 3D printers use plastic but industrial applications can include metal or concrete.

Audio

Audio Output Devices

Speakers

Speakers produce audio output, allowing the computer to play sound, music, or other auditory information.

Headphones/Headsets

These devices provide audio output to the user and are typically used for private listening or communication purposes.

Haptic

Haptic Output Devices

Haptic devices provide tactile feedback to users, simulating the sense of touch in virtual environments or interactive applications.

Braille Embosser

This device is used to convert digital text into Braille characters for visually impaired users.

Controller Vibration

On games controllers the device can be programmed to vibrate in response to in-game events, giving the user feedback.
